Chipper Rebates

Purchase a chipper/shredder and receive a $100 rebate and/or purchase a mulching mower retrofit blade and receive a $5 rebate

Chipper/Shredders - You can turn virtually all your yard trimmings into a valuable mulch or soil amendment by using a chipper/shredder in combination with the City's free compost bins.

Thick branches and brush may be difficult to compost but they make an excellent woody mulch for placing around perennial plants when sent through a home chipper/shredder.

Mulch suppresses weeds, holds moisture and supplies nutrients to the soil. If fine shredded yard trimmings are not used as a mulch, they will rapidly decompose in a compost bin.

Leaf shredders/wackers are not eligible for rebates.

Mulching Mower Retrofit Blades - You don't have to bag grass clippings to have a beautiful, healthy lawn. Studies indicate that leaving your grass clippings on your lawn reduces your lawn's fertilizer and water needs, makes mowing faster and easier, reduces waste, and does not cause thatch.

While mulching mowers are now widely available, you can also convert most older discharge mowers to mulching mowers with the use of special mulching blades (an inexpensive "universal" mulching blade is available that fits most mowers).

How to Qualify for Rebates - In order to receive your rebate, you must complete the application at the bottom of this form and send it with a copy of a dated, itemized receipt (for more than $100) for a chipper/shredder or mulching mower retrofit blade to the:

City of Glendale Integrated Waste Management Section
548 W. Chevy Chase Drive, Glendale, California 91204.

A maximum of 15 chipper/shredder rebates are issued each year. If you have any questions about the rebate contact Tom Brady at 818-550-3435.
